Sri Guru Vandana

The Sri Guru-vandana blog by ISKCON beautifully glorifies the spiritual master as the divine guide who opens the path to Krishna consciousness.

Sri Guru-vandana
(By Narottama Dāsa Ṭhākura)

sri-guru-caraṇa-padma, kevala-bhakti-sadma,
bando mui sāvadhāna mate
yāhāra prasāde bhāi, e bhava toriya jāi,
kṛṣṇa-prāpti haya yāhā ha’te
guru-mukha-padma-vākya, cittete kariyā aikya,
ār nā koriho mane āśā
śrī-guru-caraṇe rati, ei se uttama-gati,
ye prasāde pūre sarva āśā
cakṣu-dāna dilo jei, janme janme prabhu sei,
divya-jñāna hṛde prakāśito
prema-bhakti yāhā haite, avidyā vināśa yāte,
vede gāya yāhāra carito
śrī-guru karuṇā-sindhu, adhama janāra bandhu,
lokanātha lokera jīvana
hā hā prabhu koro doyā, deho more pāda-chāyā,
ebe yaśa ghuṣuka tribhuvana

Translation
(1) The lotus feet of the spiritual master are the sole gateway to pure devotion. I bow with deep reverence. By his mercy, one crosses the ocean of material suffering and attains Kṛṣṇa’s grace.
(2) Let my heart be one with the words from his lotus mouth. I desire nothing else. Attachment to his feet brings the highest perfection and fulfills all hopes.
(3) He has opened my eyes with divine knowledge and enlightened my heart. He is my eternal lord. From him flows prema-bhakti, destroying ignorance. The Vedas glorify his character.
(4) The spiritual master is an ocean of mercy, friend of the fallen, and life of all. O master! Please bless me with the shelter of your feet. Let your glories resound throughout the three worlds.
